Meeting Schedule
Eight informative meetings are held each year at the
Toronto Botanical Garden
(formerly the Civic Garden Centre) at 777 Lawrence Avenue East, at Leslie Street,
in Metropolitan Toronto — see map and get directions
Unless otherwise specified, meetings are on the third Tuesday of the month
at 7:30 pm. and you are welcome to attend one of these meetings as a visitor.
15 January 2008 – Annual General Meeting, followed by a slide or video presentation
18 March 2008 – Growing Cacti from Seeds, by Dalibor Tichak.
Plants of the month: Rebutia by Anne Johnston, and Tylecodon by Dave Naylor.
15 April 2008 – Close Encounters with Spines and Bugs, by Mani Deligtisch.
Plants of the month: Copiapoa by Dave Naylor, and Adenia by Peter Zevenhuizen.
20 May 2008 – Naturally-Occurring Bonsai and Other Plant World Oddities, by Ben Nogueira.
Plants of the month: Ortegocactus by Deborah Wisniewska-Jones, and Cyphostemma by Peter Zevenhuizen.
1 June 2008 (Sunday) – Annual Show & Sale
at
Allan Gardens Conservatory, in their Learning Centre greenhouses (main
entrance off Carlton Street, east of Jarvis.)
The Show & Sale is
open to the general public from 10:30 am. until 4:30 pm.
Free admission. Wheelchair accessible.
Workshops about how to grow cacti from seed will be held during the show.
17 June 2008 – Crested Cacti, by Ben Nogueira.
Plants of the month: Lophophora by Frank Valente, and Jatropha by Keith Boa.
No formal meetings are held in July and August, but one or two
summer picnics may be held at members' homes.
16 September 2008 – Plant Auction of members' surplus plants and other hobby-related items.
21 October 2008 – Annual Mesemb Show. A
judged show of "living stones" and other related south African plants.
Plants of the month: Mesembryanthemaceae (Mesembs!)
18 November 2008 – Growing cacti from seed, a workshop by Dalibor Tichak.
Plants of the month: Thelocactus by Peter Zevenhuizen,
and Euphorbia milii and its hybrids by Keith Boa.
20 January 2009 – Annual General Meeting, followed by a slide show or videos.
